Why might we need digestive enzymes?
Digestive enzymes are needed for the breakdown of the food we eat, and are produced by our bodies and secreted into the digestive system. However, as we age, or during periods of illness, our enzyme activity may decline, and as a result, the breakdown and therefore the absorption of vital nutrients may be compromised. Taking a supplement containing enzymes such as protease, lipase and amylase can help to support optimal breakdown of the food we eat into nutrients ready for absorption and use throughout the body for energy, growth and repair.

Does this product contain protease?
There is a very small amount of peptidase in this product, which is a protease. However, Metagenics have chosen not to include higher levels of protease, so that this product can be used by those with gastritis or stomach ulcers, as protease is often not recommended in those situations, as it may cause irritation.
